Here is a link to the article we are discussing in today's class.  It is in the format of a PDF.  Please note that I have cut out from "Six days after..." on page 2 until the "Over the years..." paragraph on page 3.

Critical Thinking Questions for the "Kitty Genovese" Article
  1. What does Dorman imply when he states, "There was no law...that required someone witnessing a crime to report it to the police.  But they contended that morality should oblige a witness to go so"?
  2. What reasons can you think of that someone might not act in the scene of a crime, like those at Kitty Genovese's apartment complex?  Which are valid and which are not?
  3. How do you feel about the final quote?  Do you believe we are all here to "help us sustain our life and values" or do you think that humans are "individual flecks of dust just floating around in a vacuum"?  There is no correct answer, but try to come up with some reasoning to support your opinion.  If you are your partner have different views, try to see their point and understand their own logic.

Ticket Out:
On a half sheet of paper, write your full name and 3 things about you.  2 of them should be true, but make one of them a lie.  During the next 2 weeks, I will read 3-5 at the end of each period and have the class guess which statement about you is false!  Again, keep it appropriate!
